Some farms are publicly traded on the international stock markets and these can be a wise investment in the agriculture industry. Shares in dairy, pig, cattle farms and other farmland properties have seen price increases in recent months. Some analysts feel that now is the best time to invest in stocks related to the agriculture industry.
Farming Systems, Inc. is a dairy farm operator based on South America whose shares are currently trading at 42 cents each. In New Zealand, there is Allied Farmers Limited, which specializes in livestock, crops, and wool. Black Earth Farming LTD is listed on the Swedish stock exchange but its land holdings are located in southwest Russia. The area is characterized by rich soil that has not been subjected to intense farming. Crops raised on this land include barley, wheat, forage corn, and rye.
Indonesian farms that have publicly traded stock include Astra Agro Lestari, London Sumatera, and Sampoerna Agro. Palm oil plantations are big business within this country, but rubber, coconuts, coffee, and cocoa are other popular crops. Thailand, Australia, and Malaysia also have a number of publicly traded farm stocks, some of which represent cattle farms while others are cotton growers.
