There are certain types of farms that are destined to be more profitable than others. Buyers should be aware of the best types of farms so they can make a wise land purchase.
A corn or soybean farm is almost guaranteed to be profitable. It is the most widely grown crop in North and South America, with the U.S. alone growing 332 million metric tons each year. It is a staple food in many countries where it is used to make maize meal, popcorn, corn flakes, and hominy. It is also an ingredient in cooking oil, cornstarch, and syrups such as high fructose corn syrup. Corn is the primary substance fed to most animals slaughtered for food consumption purposes. It also is a component in some chemical products and biofuels.
Soybeans are used in vegetable oil and prepackaged meals and they are also fed to animals. They are a key factor in combating hunger that abounds in developing countries that are highly dependent on food imports. Other farms that can be quite profitable are horse and dairy farms. Money is made on horse farms through the fees that riders pay for animal upkeep or boarding. Dairy farms not only generate milk, they often grow their own feed for the cows in order to cut down on costs. Milk will always be needed and the government funds its production because the surplus is purchased for consumption by public school children.
